I've done the same thing you've described... "resume blasting" and my folks have suggested I get out and "pound the pavement" or "start knocking on doors"... but I don't think they get it. You can't just start walking into business parks and high rises saying "DUHR! ME wants jobzes!" and giving your resume to every shiteater sitting at the front desk of an office. If you try that, they simply direct you to whichever career website it is that they use and if you're lucky they'll humor you because you tied your tie right and ask you for a copy of your application. I'd guess that I've applied to 200-250 positions at this point and it's only been 1 month. I've had the same experiences of getting dicked around and asked to come back day after day... not that it costs me any money to drive my car across the city so you can test my resolve. I have a car... but this pisses me off... employers have the fucking gall to demand that you as a potential employee do NOT use public transportation... WHAT THE HELL??? They actually put in ads "must have reliable vehicle, no public transportation." and the job description is for a customer service representative (translation: phone bank). The real shitbox though... is that if you check government jobs... they pay really well for having only one requirement: a pulse. I found one job that pays nearly 50k for an "administrative assistant" position that literally requires "general clerical" and a high school diploma... right next to the ad in the classified section... a job requiring 3 years experience and a BA and it pays 13/hr (read: about 25 grand)...
